Just like every country in the Balkan Peninsula, Albania has a vast history which you can see in almost all of its cities. Apart from the history, Albania borders not one but two turquoise waters, one of the Adriatic Sea and the other of the Ionian Sea. Therefore, if you are into swimming and sunbathing rather than exploring historical sites, then the beautiful blue waters and sandy beaches are just for you.

Now that we know where is Albania let’s look at all the things you can visit and do there.

Explore the history of Albania

Kruje Castle is just one of the many beautiful historical sites in Albania.

Albania, just like the other Balkan countries is full of history. However, if you truly want to quench your thirst for history, then a visit to Butrint National Park will surely do that. We can see relics which date back from Greek to Roman, to Byzantine and Venetian times.

Another place worth visiting is the town of a thousand windows known as Berat as well as the “city of stones” called Gjirokastra. Both of these cities are famous due to their intricate architecture which you cannot see anywhere else. However, being a seaside country, all of these places also offer some magnificent views of the sea as well as the nature surrounding them.

Discover the beautiful nature all around

Beautiful Albanian mountainside is full of life.

Where is Albania? Well, Albania is a place which has some of the most turquoise waters and sandy beaches. You can locate some of the best beaches in Saranda and Ksamil, where you can sit back, sunbathe and enjoy yourself with a book in one hand and a cocktail in the other.

Another thing that makes Albania so appealing is the low prices when compared to other seaside countries. With that in mind, if you want a great holiday, but you are on a budget, then Albania is the place to be.

Other natural spots are the famous Blue Eye, which is a spring of fresh water which wheels people with its magnificent emerald colored waters that change and sparkle in the light of the sun. If you are a nature buff, then a trip to Liogara National Park may be just what you need. This national park offers some of the best views in the entire country, as well as some of the greenest forest.

Meet the natives

A vibrant market atmosphere in Albania, with crowds of people.

Although friendly, the people in Albania tend to be shyer than the people from other Balkan countries. However, this doesn’t mean that they are any less welcoming or unfriendly. They are just not the kind of people that would strike a conversation with a stranger immediately.

Although a tourist destination, Albanians are known not to be so fluent in English but are rather fluent in Italian.  However, this doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to understand each other. Then again, living in this day and era, more and more people are starting to learn and use English more frequently, which is also noticeable in Albania as well.

So, where is Albania?

Albania is a country in southeastern Europe where the old meets the new, and where history is closely intertwined with nature. It is a place where you can go if you want to hear stories of leaders and battles fought long ago, and a place where you can take in the amazing views of the mountains as well as the crystal clear waters of both the Ionian and the Adriatic Sea.

Simple, Albania is a place you should visit if you haven’t visited already.
