The Peak District

If you need a rest from walking, you can stop by the Peak District's many stunning villages, home to old fashion inns with crackling fires and cosy pubs. Bakewell, the region's biggest town, exudes a medieval charm and is a lovely place to explore on foot, with its cute stone cottages.

The Lake District

Others will take you high up to the mountain for dramatic views you won't find anywhere else. If you prefer something more challenging, hike up Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain, at over 900 metres tall.

Dorset

Dorset is one of the UK's most photographed destinations and a must-visit on your sabbatical trip. It's home to some of the UK's most beautiful beaches and is best renowned for the stunning Jurassic Coast. Visitors would flock to Dorset to experience the quintessential British beach town and explore its landmarks peppered with fossils and spectacular landforms.

Seeing the Jurassic Coast should be on top of your list. It's a long strip of stunning coastal land famous for its fossils and the significant geological information it offers. It's the only natural World Heritage Site in England. While the Jurassic Coast begins in neighbouring Devon, most of its length is within Dorset. It's an area that offers incredible stunning natural formations, breathtaking panoramic views, and an abundance of fossils. 

You'll likely spend most of your time at the beach on your visit to Dorset. The English County has several gorgeous beaches offering fun water sports, like sailing and paddleboarding. Visit Swanage Beach and Weymouth Beach. Both are incredibly pretty, lined by a lovely promenade and colourful beach huts. 

The Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales has some of the UK's most breathtaking sceneries. You'll find many things to enjoy on your sabbatical here, from exploring pretty towns and villages to discovering caves and crags. Summer is the best time to visit the Yorkshire Dales, where it enjoys mild weather, with sunshine beautifully illuminating the breathtaking moorland landscapes cascading through the countryside.

The lovely town of Horton-in-Ribblesdale is a must-see. Many would come here for the Yorkshire Three Peaks, as it's the starting point of the challenge, which requires ascending 7,000 feet over Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Take the time to explore the North Yorkshire town of Wensleydale in the upper valley of the Dale. It's a beautiful area brimming with gentle rolling countryside, offering numerous places to explore, including the ruins of Jervaulx Abbey.
