Volcanoes National Park

Located in the northwestern Rwanda, the Volcanoes national park is the most visited of all Rwanda’s tourist sites. With a total area of approximately 160 square kilometers, the park encompasses the thick rainforests that host the incredible creatures – endangered mountain gorillas that are watched during Rwanda gorilla treks. The park also encompasses five of the eight volcanoes in Virunga mountains; Mount Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo and was also the base for the primatologist Dian Fossey.

In addition to mountain gorillas, the Volcanoes National Park is also home to the endangered golden monkeys, which you can track and observe. Kigali Genocide Memorial

Rwanda has a dark past! In 1994, the country experienced one of the most notorious genocides in human history. Almost eight hundred thousand of people were killed within just 100 days.

To understand this tragic event, a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site is a must for foreign visitors to Rwanda. This memorial commemorates the 1994 Rwanda genocide. The site is located in Gisozi, Rwanda just at the out skits of Kigali. Opened in 2010, It contains a permanent exhibition of the Rwandan genocide and an exhibition of other genocides around the world. The memorial provides a poignant insight into the history and the human cost of the genocide.

Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu is one of Africa's Great Lakes and forms part of the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift.

It empties into River Ruzizi, which flows southwards into Lake Tanganyika. While at the great lake, you can enjoy activities like swimming, kayaking, boat trips, and lakeside dining while taking in the stunning views. Gisenyi and Kibuye are popular towns on the Rwandan side of the lake.

Nyungwe Forest National Park

The forests are on the border with Burundi where it is contiguous with Kibira national park to the south, Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west.

With a total surface area of 1,019 meters, Nyungwe forest national park is a home to a large population of chimpanzees that can be observed during a fascinating chimpanzee trekking experience. Aside chimps, the park also protects other 12 primate species, over 275 bird species, 85 mammal species, 32 amphibian and 38 reptiles. Other activities in the park include hiking, canopy walking, and birdwatching in this lush, green paradise.

Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is the only savanna national park in Rwanda. Located in north eastern Rwanda, Akagera offers exclusive game drives to Rwanda visitors. These game drives offer an opportunity, to see the various wildlife that include spotted hyenas, elephants, Burchell’s zebras, various antelopes, buffaloes, lions etc. Led by knowledgeable guides, you will set out for game drives along the various park tracks in a customized safari vehicle.
