The Nyaung U Market is the ideal place for this as it showcases the authentic lifestyle of Myanmar people. This market is located in the northeastern part of Bagan, and everything from vegetables to clothes is sold here. 

Also, there is a night market that is located alongside Bupaya Pagoda that is famous for souvenirs and mini-restaurants.

The chickpea and tofu curry (tohu thoke) is a common street food item in Bagan. The sliced tofu mixed with chickpeas and herbs is very delicious and very healthy. 

You will also find Jengkol or dogfruit widely used in many dishes here. It is an edible seed native to Southeast Asiainfo-icon

Fried crickets (Pa-Yit-Kyaw) is another favorite among locals. You might be a little skeptic in trying it, but go ahead and take the chance! 

#6: Trek Popa Mountain National Park

If you are a nature lover and a wildlife enthusiast, here is what to do in Bagan. Popa Mountain Nation Park is situated on the slopes of Mount Popa which is an extinct volcano. It is located 50km southeast of Bagan and would take around one and a half hours from the city.

The park covers an area of 49.63 kilometers and is rich in biodiversity. It is home to animals like barking deer, jungle cat, wild dog, and monkeys and there are around 140 species of birds here. 

The best time to visit the park is between November to May when the weather is favorable. It is advised to wear decent attire if you want to visit the temples and shrines located in this area.
